32 will face drug court charges in South Carolina sting operation

It is not uncommon for federal agents to arrest and charge multiple people with drug crimes relating to the same alleged drug distribution ring. When a large number of individuals are arrested at once, it is possible for law enforcement officials to make a mistake and arrest the wrong person. Any South Carolina resident who is arrested and charged with narcotics crimes will have the opportunity to defend him or herself against those allegations in drug court.

Recently, eight additional individuals were arrested with regard to their alleged connection to a drug ring operating in Beaufort County, South Carolina. This brings the total of arrested individuals up to 32 people. All of them are allegedly connected to the same underground drug distribution ring.

Five of the arrested individuals have already chosen to plead guilty with regard to different drug crimes allegations. The drug ring was allegedly created to distribute, trade and sell Oxycodone, cocaine and other controlled substances. Of the eight people who were recently arrested, one is from Jasper County and seven are from Beaufort County.

Local and state law enforcement officials have assisted federal agents to complete the narcotics crimes investigation, which began last January. A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney would not reveal if there would be any more arrests.

Those South Carolina residents who have already been arrested in this matter will have the opportunity to defend themselves in drug court. It is possible that some of the individuals who have been indicted will be able to get their charges reduced or dismissed completely if the prosecution is unable to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that they are guilty. In many cases, proving guilt is more difficult than it might seem, and an intelligently planned criminal defense can enable the accused to avoid jail time and walk completely free of their charges.
