State law regarding illegal drugs behind arrest of store owner

A business owner in South Carolina is behind bars following an investigation regarding illegal drug sales at her smoke shops. At the end of 2014, state law was changed to prohibit the sale of synthetic marijuana -- also known as spice -- and products containing the compound AB-Pinaca. This particular shop owner is accused of continuing to stock synthetic marijuana in her stores and this other newly illegal substance.

A 42-year-old woman, owner of Time Warp and Time Warp 2, was recently arrested after undercover officers claim to have purchased synthetic pot from both store locations. Some of the products purchased allegedly contained the newly banned compound AB-Pinaca. Officers also claim to have found instruments often used to manufacture methamphetamines in the attic of one of the store locations.

The woman was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center after a police raid. She is being charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug manufacturing. At this time, it is unknown if bond has been set in her case. Other court dates regarding this matter have not been reported.

State law in South Carolina regarding illegal drug sales is quite strict. This individual, if convicted, may face a lengthy prison sentence, fines and a number of other potential consequences. Several strategies may be utilized to help fight the charges, negotiate with prosecutors concerning a possible a plea agreement or to seek alternative sentencing should a conviction be obtained. Whichever path is chosen, this matter would likely benefit by being attended to by a criminal defense attorney with experience in drug cases.
