South Carolina man arrested in connection with hit and run

An older gentleman was recently arrested in South Carolina in connection with an auto-pedestrian accident. The supposed hit and run incident resulted in the death of one man. The accused in facing multiple charges for the collision, including felony DUI and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

A 62-year-old male was taken into custody earlier this month following a pedestrian accident. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, this individual is believed to have struck a volunteer firefighter who was reportedly directing traffic around another crash. The victim, a 52-year-old male, was taken to a nearby hospital with head injuries; however, he died shortly after arrival.

The accused was arrested at his home promptly after the incident. He has been charged with a hit and run accident and driving under the influence resulting in death. It is unknown if bond has been set in this case or if any court dates have been scheduled regarding this matter.

The charges against the accused can have severe penalties if prosecuting attorneys are able to secure a conviction. The potential consequences for a hit and run and DUI resulting in fatality in South Carolina include prison time and fines -- among others. While a case like this may seem open and shut with little hope, the ability to present a defense on this individual's behalf can prove beneficial in fighting for his freedom. A careful and thoughtful examination of evidence may produce information that can help in creating a strong defense against the accusations involved in this case.
