Wrongful death claim possible after fatal collision

A recent multi-vehicle crash in South Carolina resulted in the death of one man. While the investigation into this incident is still ongoing, police do believe the motorcycle the deceased was riding at the time of the crash was hit head-on by one of the other cars. Depending on the investigative findings, the family members of the victim may decide to pursue a wrongful death claim on his behalf.

What is considered child pornography and what are the penalties?

South Carolina, just as other states, wants to ensure children are protected. Those accused of sex crimes that have anything to do with minors are not likely to be treated with any sort of leniency by law enforcement officials. This includes those who are accused of possessing, distributing and/or creating child pornography.

Wrongful death actions possible following fatal crash

An older gentleman recently lost his life in a crash in South Carolina. Local authorities are still investigating the incident. However, initial reports seem to indicate that this individual was not at fault for the collision. Depending on the results of a full investigation, the victim's family may be able to pursue wrongful death actions against the driver believed responsible for the wreck and/or the owner of that person's vehicle.

Drunk driving checkpoints: The good, the bad and the ugly

Several times throughout the year, South Carolina residents may see checkpoints put in place in order for authorities to crack down on impaired drivers. Drunk driving is a problem in the state, and these checkpoints are just one way police work to remove inebriated drivers from the streets. While there are certainly good things to be said about this practice, with every positive thing, negatives can usually be found.

Wrongful death claim may follow alleged DUI crash

When a driver in South Carolina has a passenger in the vehicle, he or she is responsible for the safety of that passenger. If the driver is negligent and becomes involved in an accident that causes the death of the passenger, the surviving family of the deceased passenger may have a viable wrongful death claim. Such an accident occurred on a road in Clarendon County on a recent Friday afternoon.

Arrest made in fatal hit and run incident

A Myrtle Beach family struggling with a terrible loss may find some small comfort in the knowledge that an arrest has been made in the death of a 23-year-old woman. The woman was killed when a driver struck her vehicle and then fled the scene of the accident on foot. South Carolina police have arrested a suspect in the case, and he is now charged with hit and run as well as failing to adhere to the duties of a driver who is involved in as serious traffic accident.

Alleged sexual assault leads to arrest of South Carolina man

Any sex-related charges can have devastating consequences for an accused person. Freedom and reputation will be on the line, but in South Carolina -- as in the rest of the country -- everybody has legal rights. Every citizen is allowed to defend his or her rights in court. Even those who are acquitted carry the stigma of having been involved in a sexual assault or other misconduct case, but those who are convicted will have to register as sex offenders. For this reason, accomplished legal representation may be beneficial.
