South Carolina criminal defense: charges filed after accident

A woman in South Carolina is facing charges after she was involved in a collision with a police officer. Law enforcement officials claim the woman was driving while impaired at the time of the crash. As a DUI charge is something that can carry significant penalties, a strategic criminal defense may prove helpful in resolving this case in a way that best suits the interests of the accused.

A 26-year-old woman is said to have allegedly lost control of her vehicle, causing the car to leave the road and collide with the back end of a police vehicle. The officer was transported to a medical facility for injuries suffered in the crash. It was not reported if the accused was injured in the wreck.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol issued a DUI charge for the incident. The accused was transported to a detention center. It is unknown if she is still being held or if she has been released on bond. Court dates regarding this specific case were not reported.

In South Carolina, the loss of driving privileges, fines, rehabilitation and jail time are just a few of the penalties that might accompany a conviction on a DUI charge. Anyone of these consequences can have a significant impact on the life of the accused. Seeking the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney may prove valuable with either fighting this type of charge or seeking alternatives to the traditional penalties. As there are a number of things that may have contributed to this accident, a full investigation that includes looking at any outside factors and the accuracy of the DUI tests performed should not be overlooked when so much in on the line.
