A family dispute appears to have led to assault and sex crime charges for a Myrtle Beach man. He and his cousin had reportedly been drinking when they began to argue. The man facing charges is accused of pushing his cousin off of a porch, and while the man who was pushed went to a relative’s house, the other man allegedly tried to have sex with his cousin’s wife.
Specifically, the 32-year-old is charged with third-degree assault and battery and exposure of private parts. To protect his rights and freedom, he will need a strong criminal defense.
According to his cousin’s wife, the accused man made sexual advances toward the woman while she was sleeping. She told police that she woke up to find her husband’s cousin with his pants down and attempting to take her pants off.
The woman said she pushed the man away and tried to leave, but she claims he pushed her back and tried to get her to stay. She eventually used a neighbor’s phone to call her husband.
The man now facing charges was arrested the following afternoon.
If convicted, he could face jail time and have to register as a sex offender. In these cases, more than a person’s freedom is on the line. Reputation damage is a common effect of sex crime charges, even if the accused individual is acquitted.
A strong criminal defense strategy is necessary to protect against negative consequences. Sometimes a misunderstanding results in criminal charges, and it is important for accused individuals to tell their side of the story and have their day in court.
