Property crime rates in South Carolina are reported to be slightly higher than the national median. Higher crime rates often put police on the lookout for suspicious behavior, and those convicted of property crimes, particularly of burglary, face harsh penalties under South Carolina laws. Two young women are currently facing accusations and possible felony charges for their suspected involvement in a home break-in.
The incident that occurred recently in Camden has led to the arrest of the two women and left local authorities searching for a male that was also reportedly involved. The homeowner apparently came home, mid afternoon, to see two women and an unidentified male allegedly in the process of carrying a television from her back porch. The homeowner supposedly confronted them, causing them to drop the television, and all three then ran from the home. The women were seen running from the scene by a city employee who ended up helping in their apprehension.
The two women, ages 18 and 21, were arrested and have been charged with second degree burglary. They are currently being held at a local detention center while they wait for a court date to set bond. The male has yet to be identified and/or arrested in his supposed connection with the crime.
Breaking and entering with the intent to steal property can carry stiff penalties in South Carolina. Burglars may face felony charges that — if convicted — could mean facing minimum mandatory imprisonment.
