South Carolina man facing felony DUI charges after fatal crash

Sadly, the effects of driving drunk often reach far beyond just the driver that is accused of doing it. While many people who drive drunk don't think they will hurt anyone else, the unfortunate truth of the matter is that often innocent bystanders are hurt or even killed by drunk drivers. For this reason, South Carolina authorities are doing all they can to try to stop these drivers before they do any harm to the public. State courts take felony DUI charges very seriously and those accused may face serious consequences.

Recently, a 20-year-old male was arrested for his connection in an accident that resulted in the death of another driver. The accused individual was apparently driving his car on a local highway when he crossed into another lane and hit the victim's vehicle head-on. The driver of the other car, a 27-year-old female, was killed in the crash before she could be transported for treatment.

The driver believed responsible for this accident was arrested and is being held at a local detention center. Charges against him include felony DUI. It is unknown if any other charges are pending against him. It has also not been reported if bond or court dates have been set his case.

South Carolina residents who have been accused of and are facing a felony DUI charge have the right to utilize a criminal defense if they so desire. The ability to defend oneself in court is a right everyone is entitled to regardless of the crime they are accused of committing. In preparing such a defense, they may be able to lessen the negative repercussions of the criminal claims made against them. Alternatively, an accused individual may choose to negotiate a plea deal with authorities to achieve a more positive outcome if the facts of a specific case warrants it.
