A fatal accident that results from a person’s choice to drink and drive can have extremely negative consequences for everyone involved. An accident under these circumstances, regardless of intent, can be life-altering for the victim’s family and for the driver accused. A charge of felony DUI, which results in the death of another, carries harsh punishment in South Carolina, and those accused could certainly benefit by defending themselves of the allegations they face.

Earlier this month, a man was arrested and charged for a crash that resulted in the death of a 3-year-old boy. The accused’s vehicle supposedly deviated from course and ended up hitting the victim’s car. As a result the little boy and his mother were taken to the hospital for treatment. While the mother survived, the child later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver accused of this accident, a 44-year-old male, was arrested and is currently charged with felony DUI, manslaughter and several other charges. He is currently being held at a local detention center while waiting for court dates. He supposedly has a history of DUI offenses and it is unknown if bond will be set in this case.

The consequences of a felony DUI in South Carolina can include prison time and fines; all of which may be more severe if there is loss of life involved. Anyone accused of such an offense has the right to their day in court. A strategic criminal defense may also prove beneficial to help those accused navigate through criminal proceedings and determine the best course of action for a specific situation.
