The idea of hitting a pedestrian when behind the wheel is frightening. Drivers do their best to avoid pedestrians at all costs, but these accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. Sadly, an accident in South Carolina claimed the life of a woman, resulting in the driver being arrested on a felony DUI charge.
The accident occurred recently at a local hot spot in Atlantic Beach, where the driver of a truck, a 56-year-old male, struck a woman who was apparently trying to enter his vehicle. It is unknown if she received any medical treatment or died at the scene of the incident. According to the coroner, the 49-year-old woman evidently died from multiple trauma caused by an automobile.
The driver considered responsible for this tragic event was arrested and is facing a felony DUI resulting in death charge. He was able to make his bond payment of $25,000 and has been released. At this time, court dates for this case have not been made public.
This incident has undoubtedly been emotionally traumatizing to not only the victim’s family, but to the driver, as well. Under South Carolina laws, a felony DUI charge of this magnitude can carry harsh penalties. These penalties can include fines, jail time, loss of license and mandatory treatment programs. The accused in this case has every reasonable right to question the charge and evidence provided against him, and to seek information regarding the best legal track to pursue. Doing so can certainly help this individual attain the most favorable outcome for his situation.
