Motherhood can certainly be one of the greatest, yet stressful jobs out there. It is understandable that any mother may need to take a break and step away for a bit to recharge. Unfortunately, one South Carolina mother’s need for a break ended with a trip to jail, and she will now begin the fight to keep her child.

A 44-year-old woman of Dalzell was recently arrested and is facing charges for alleged DUI and child neglect. The woman was pulled over in the early morning hours by local police, though the reasons for the traffic stop were not provided. According to officers, the woman failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody. During her arrest, the accused supposedly told officers she left her toddler at home. Deputies arrived at her home and found a 20-month-old boy alone.

The accused was taken to a local detention center. Bond was recently set at just under $6,000, with the stipulation that she is not to consume alcohol if that bond is met. It is currently unknown if any other court dates have been scheduled in this case.

South Carolina laws regarding DUI and child neglect are strict. Not only is this mother facing the possibility of jail and fines, she also stands the chance of losing custody of her child. With so much at stake, reviewing the familial circumstances, along with focusing on the specific accusations of neglect, may help in the fight to keep her family together. A focused criminal defense, based upon experienced insight concerning the legal proceedings ahead, may help in applying sensible strategies that may work to produce the best possible outcome for this situation.
