A man who had recently been living in another state is now behind bars in South Carolina. The accusations against him include criminal sexual conduct and sexual exploitation of a minor. Under state laws, both of these are considered felony charges.

The 41-year-old male had been placed under house arrest in his current home state after accusations of criminal sexual conduct with a minor were first introduced earlier this year. Recently, police officers in South Carolina filed further charges regarding the same incident after they supposedly found a suggestive image of the child on the accused’s cell phone. This individual turned himself in to police following these new charges

The accused returned to South Carolina and is currently being held by police in Charleston County. According to recent reports, bond has been denied in this case. At this time, it is unknown if any court dates have been scheduled.

Accusations of crimes against children are always taken seriously by South Carolina law enforcement agencies. The potential consequences for the felony charges filed in this particular case include a lengthy jail and/or prison sentence, hefty fines and mandatory registration on the Sex Offender Registry. Cases involving children are extremely delicate in nature and finding a balance can be difficult. In these situations, it is important to carefully review every minute detail of the case to ensure the rights of both the victim and the accused are being fully protected. While fighting these types of charges can be challenging, it isn’t impossible and a variety of defensive strategies are available which may prove beneficial to the accused during criminal proceedings.
