A South Carolina man was arrested earlier this month following a car accident that claimed the life of his 2-year-old daughter. For a father who claims to do everything for his children, this is truly a terrible tragedy. Even though the charges in this case are severe, this individual certainly retains the right to employ a strong criminal defense on his behalf.
According to officers in Cherokee County, the accused was involved in a single-vehicle crash on a Tuesday afternoon. Law enforcement officials say that this individual was driving at excessive speeds before he crashed into a sign, trash can and ultimately a tree. Three children in the vehicle were taken to a hospital for treatment. Sadly, a 2-year-old girl later succumbed to her injuries.
The 26-year-old father was arrested shortly after the collision, and bond was set at $25,000. The charges in this case include reckless homicide and a possible DUI charge may follow, depending on the results of a blood test. At this time, it is unknown if any court dates have been set regarding this matter. The South Carolina Highway Patrol are still in the process of investigating this incident.
Charges like those filed and pending in this case can have life-changing consequences. The potential consequences the accused faces if a conviction is secured include prison time, fines and even the loss of parental privileges to his surviving children. While these charges can be difficult to fight in court, with so much on the line, a strategic criminal defense may be key to obtaining an outcome that keeps his and his family’s best interests at heart.
