Wrongful death claims possible following crash in South Carolina

A tragic turn of events led to the death of a man in South Carolina. According to a recent news report, this individual was killed when his car was struck by another vehicle. Losing a loved one in such a sudden and unexpected way can take a terrible toll on surviving family members. Those left behind may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim to help recover any financial losses resulting from such an incident.

The 68-year-old man died following the car crash in Dillon. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a driver heading northbound on US 301 drifted off the side of the road, over-corrected and then struck the victim’s car head-on. A passenger in the victim’s car was transported to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.

Little information was released about the driver believed to be responsible for this collision. It was reported, however, that this individual and his or her passengers were all taken to a local hospital for medical care. This crash is still under investigation. According to local law enforcement, charges are pending in this matter.

Accidents that result in a fatality can affect surviving family members in a number of ways. From emotionally to financially, these types of accidents can simply be difficult from which to move forward. Family members of the deceased retain the right to pursue a wrongful death claim, which could help recover the monetary losses they have suffered as a result of his death. Other legal claims may also be filed against the individual deemed responsible by the other victims who suffered injuries in the crash. Those claims that are successfully litigated in a South Carolina civil court may award financial compensation for the damages sustained.
