Sexual assault accusations can be extremely damaging

Sex-related criminal accusation are very delicate in nature. These cases require a certain finesse to ensure the rights of both the accuser and the accused are fully protected. While acts of sexual assault are not taken lightly in South Carolina, those accused of such acts are fully entitled to a criminal defense on their behalf.

There is no doubt that certain situations can place people in vulnerable positions. Giving or receiving massages, for instance, requires a certain amount of trust between therapist and client. A few months back, a massage therapist was accused of sexually assaulting a client during a session. The client, a female, claims her therapist, a male, inappropriately handled her private areas during her massage. She later reported the incident to the spa and to authorities.

The therapist in this situation, according to reports, had a previous arrest on similar charges. The outcome of the criminal proceedings regarding this specific matter are unknown. The potential penalties for a conviction on sexual assault charges generally include jail and/or prison time, fines and a myriad of other consequences.

Accusations of sexual assault can be extremely damaging and can have a significant impact on a person’s life. This massage therapist, if convicted, would likely lose his license, his livelihood and his freedom. Those accused of sex-related crimes in South Carolina do have the right to defend themselves. With the help of an experienced criminal defense team, those facing accusations of sexual assault can make informed decisions regarding their case while pursing the best possible outcome for their specific situation.
