Millions of people suffer brain injuries every year

Accidents that result in some form of head trauma are more common that one would think. Brain injuries often occur due to automobile accidents, sports injuries and falls -- among other things. Millions of Americans across the country suffer brain injuries every year, quite of few of them reside in South Carolina.

According to the Brain Injury Association of America and the Centers for Disease Control and Injury Prevention, well over two million people suffer from traumatic brain injuries every year. While there are many things that could lead to such afflictions, it appears that falls are considered the number one cause. At a relatively close second is car accidents.

Regardless of how a traumatic brain injury occurs, how such damage will affect a person in the long-run can be unpredictable. The location of the injury will generally determine what losses can be expected following head trauma. Some of the impairments often seen may lead to temporary disability, with hope of eventually regaining full function; others, however, can have permanent effects.

Brain injuries can affect so many aspects of a person's life. This can result in a number of problems including the inability to work and financially support oneself and one's family, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life and a build up of significant medical expenses. South Carolina residents, and those living elsewhere, who have suffered trauma to the head due to another person's carelessness and negligence, can utilize legal services in an effort to seek compensation for any current and future losses such an injury may create. While living with a traumatic brain injury is not easy, through legal means, it is possible for financial relief to be granted, allowing victims and their family members the ability to focus less on fiscal concerns and more on healing and recovery.
