Recently, in a city located in the northeast portion of the state, a man was arrested following a series of events that culminated in a car crash. This individual is facing a number of charges for the incident, one of which is for an alleged DUI. The offenses this man is accused of are considered pretty significant in South Carolina. Thankfully, as all do, this individual does have the right to a criminal defense in court.
A 50-year-old male was taken into custody in mid-May by police officers in Greenville County. According to law enforcement officials, this individual allegedly attempted to flee from officers who were, supposedly, trying to pull him over for erratic driving. A police pursuit of this individual ended after the accused reportedly crashed his car. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Several agencies are said to have assisted with the arrest of the accused, including city officers and county deputies. Formal charges, including failure to stop and DUI, have been filed. No further details have been provided about this matter.
Regardless of where one lives in the state, accusations of DUI and/or failing to stop for police are both considered serious offenses in South Carolina. A person who is facing criminal charges equal or similar to those filed against the accused in this specific case can seek legal assistance to help with the matter at hand. While it may seem otherwise, no case is hopeless. Several different criminal defense strategies may prove beneficial in successfully fighting charges, or in seeking alternatives to traditional sentencing guidelines — if a conviction is, ultimately, secured by the prosecution.
