South Carolina man facing sexual assault charges

Recently, a man in South Carolina was arrested following an assault claim made by a co-worker. According to reports, the female victim claims that the man tried to force himself on her after they had spent the day together. The accused is facing charges for sexual assault and kidnapping as a result of the allegations.

The 31-year-old male was taken into custody in the early morning hours of June 1. According to police, the victim claims the accused requested sex, which she refused, then he forced himself on her, allegedly. Law enforcement was called after she supposedly jumped out of a window in the bathroom and flagged down a motorist on a nearby highway.

Police officers claim that they were unable to successfully make contact with the accused after arriving at his home. They eventually called for backup and obtained search warrants, then forcefully entered his house. He was arrested shortly after and was being detained at least until a bond hearing is scheduled.

Sexual assault and kidnapping charges are not likely to be taken lightly in a South Carolina criminal court. Cases involving any type of sex crime requires a certain level of sensitivity in order to ensure both the rights of the victim and the accused are considered. Sex crimes involving adults can quickly turn into a he-said/she-said fight. As such, as part of a strategic criminal defense, it is imperative to carefully investigate the alleged incident and closely examine any evidence  to be offered against the accused. Further exploration may bring forward valuable information that will help this individual in either fighting the charges against him or in pursuing alternative or reduced sentencing by means of a negotiated plea agreement.
