An older gentleman recently lost his life in a crash in South Carolina. Local authorities are still investigating the incident. However, initial reports seem to indicate that this individual was not at fault for the collision. Depending on the results of a full investigation, the victim’s family may be able to pursue wrongful death actions against the driver believed responsible for the wreck and/or the owner of that person’s vehicle.
On July 9, a 69-year-old male was involved in a collision while riding his moped on the Sea Mountain Highway. According to reports, in the late afternoon this individual collided with a truck that turned onto the highway in front of his vehicle. He did not have a helmet on at the time of the crash and, sadly, did not survive the incident.
The person deemed responsible for this collision is a 19-year-old male. He has been charged with failing to appropriately yield. At this time, no further information regarding this case has been released.
There is no doubt that this tragic incident has had a significant impact on the victim’s loved ones. The emotional and financial losses associated with such an accident can take a serious toll. It may be possible for surviving family members to seek compensation for any damages sustained, such as the loss of consortium, loss of income and/or benefits and funeral expenses — among numerous others. This can be achieved by filing and successfully litigating a wrongful death claim in a South Carolina civil court. While pursing such action may be difficult, doing so could provide much needed relief and, possibly, a sense of closure.
