A crash that occurred on the I-26 in South Carolina is currently being investigated by authorities. According to a recent report, the individual deemed responsible for the wreck has been charged with a felony DUI. At this time, it is unknown if bond has been set in this case.

A 23-year-old woman is believed to be responsible for a collision that resulted in the death of another female. Police claim that at approximately 2 a.m. on Sept. 1, the accused’s vehicle struck the rear-end of an SUV, causing the SUV to leave the road. The victim’s car reportedly overturned, throwing the driver — a 21-year-old woman — from the automobile, resulting in fatal injuries.

The accused was arrested shortly after the wreck. She has been charged with a felony DUI causing death. Police have not indicated what impairing substance they believe this individual had in her system at the time of the crash.

A South Carolina resident who is charged with a felony DUI causing death may face a number of potential penalties if, ultimately, convicted. In this particular case, consequences might include imprisonment, significant fines and the loss of driving privileges — among others. While this individual may have a difficult legal battle ahead of her, there are various defense strategies that may benefit her situation. After analyzing any evidence and investigative reports, the accused and her attorney will be able to question findings and choose the best course of action for the circumstances. With the life-long impact a conviction of this magnitude can have on one’s life, a criminal defense attorney will work diligently to resolve such a legal matter in a way that best suits the client.
