Felony DUI charges filed against South Carolina man

A gentleman in South Carolina is facing criminal charges following a car accident that is believed responsible for the deaths of two people. This incident occurred the morning of Nov. 8 in Florence County. The charges against the accused include two counts of felony DUI.

A 26-year-old Lake City man was arrested and taken to the Florence County Detention Center following a fatal hit-and-run crash. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, it is believed that this individual struck a moped carrying two people, both of whom died at the scene of the collision. The accident was reported about an hour after it occurred. The road on which the wreck took place was closed for the morning while investigators worked the scene.

At this time, it is unclear what led police to charge the accused. Court dates regarding this matter have not been reported. Authorities have yet to release any further details about this incident.

In accordance with the laws of South Carolina, the felony DUI and hit-and-run charges filed in this case could have a very negative impact on the life of the accused. This individual has every right to fight the accusations against him and to seek legal assistance to help with this cause. While this type of situation is most certainly a difficult one, the burden of proof lies on the prosecution. The prosecuting attorney will have provide a high degree of proof that this particular man was indeed responsible for the crash, and that intoxication was a contributing factor. The failure to provide sufficient evidence that fully supports the accusations filed against the accused could result in a case dismissal or at least a reduction in charges.
