South Carolina criminal defense: DUI charges filed after accident

A South Carolina man is facing criminal charges for his involvement in a car accident. According to a recent report, at least five minors were hurt when their bus was rear ended by the accused’s vehicle. Authorities believe that he was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. This individual does have the right to a strategic criminal defense that may prove helpful as he fights the charges in court.

The accident in question is said to have occurred at the end of November in Charleston County. According to police, the accused — a 61-year-old man — hit the back end of a bus that had stopped to drop off students. All of the children received medical evaluations on scene. Five of them did require transportation to an area hospital for further treatment. Thankfully, all of the injuries suffered are believed to be minor in nature.

It was not reported if the accused suffered any injuries in the collision. He has been charged with driving under the influence. Police have not provided further details as to how they came to this conclusion or what substance this individual is believed to have had in his system. It is unknown as to whether the accused is being held by authorities or if he has been released.

A DUI charge in South Carolina in no laughing matter. The consequences can have a significant impact on just about every aspect of one’s life. The accused in this particular case may seek to employ an experienced criminal defense team who will work diligently to achieve the best possible outcome for his situation — which may result in a dismissal or reduction of charges or alternative, lighter sentencing.
