South Carolina man in jail for driving drunk with child in car

On Behalf of | Dec 17, 2015 | Drunk Driving

A man in South Carolina was recently arrested for allegedly driving under the influence with a minor in the vehicle. He was booked into jail shortly after being stopped by police. Officers claim to have had some trouble getting the accused to comply with demands to stop his vehicle.

The accused — a 35-year-old male — was supposedly driving well above the speed limit and swerving across traffic lanes on Highway 17 when a North Myrtle Beach police officer attempted a traffic stop. According to the police report, the accused failed to comply and continued toward a nearby neighborhood. After he pulled into a driveway, the officer approached the vehicle just as a female passenger was getting out of the car. The officer claims to have seen a child still sitting in the automobile.

The accused was taken into custody, and sobriety tests were performed at the police station. Authorities claim that this individual failed two tests and that his breath test registered at .18. He was then charged with DUI, failure to stop and child endangerment.

The man’s relationship to the child is unknown. If he is the father or legal guardian, the charges against him could affect his rights to the child. As if that was not severe enough, penalties upon a conviction might also include jail time and hefty fines — among others. With so much on the line, this gentleman may seek assistance from an experienced defense attorney who will be able to discuss the case, give options and represent his best interests before a South Carolina criminal court.
