South Carolina woman suffers catastrophic injuries in truck crash

On Behalf of | Dec 21, 2015 | Brain Injury

A home care nurse in South Carolina was involved in an accident with a semi in mid-October, as she was driving to check in on two of her patients. As a result of the crash, she suffered catastrophic injuries, placing her in a vegetative state. She has since woken from her coma, but her road to recovery is just beginning.

On Oct. 15, the driver of a semi truck — for reasons unknown — slammed into the car of a 43-year-old woman. The victim, a nurse and mother of 11, suffered a brain injury, broken ribs and collapsed lung — among other injuries. She was in a coma until Thanksgiving. Her prognosis is still uncertain.

This incident has left the victim’s family struggling in a number of ways. Financially speaking, the costs of care and the income losses they have endured since the accident has been devastating. Thankfully, help has been freely offered by friends, family and strangers to assist them through this difficult time.

The catastrophic injuries suffered by this woman have changed not only the course of her life but that of her family. If desired, the victim and her husband may pursue legal actions in a South Carolina civil court against the truck driver and his or her employer in an effort to seek damages for the past, current and future losses resulting from this incident. While these cases can be challenging, if litigation proves successful, fair and full compensation may be achieved, which would allow this victim and her family to focus on healing and recovery without having to worry about financial concerns.
