A young woman in South Carolina is facing criminal charges following a fatal accident. According to police, this individual is accused of driving while impaired and causing the crash that killed her teenage cousin. She is facing a felony DUI charge as a result.
This incident reportedly occurred in the middle of the night on Dec. 20, in Greenville County. The accused, a 22-year-old female, allegedly drove off the right side of the road and struck several parked vehicles, causing her SUV to flip multiple times. A female passenger in the SUV was reportedly not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the automobile. She was transported to a hospital for treatment, but she died shortly after her arrival.
The accused was also injured in the wreck. She was taken to a medical facility with serious injuries but was later released. Bond was set in her case at $25,000.
Being involved in a fatal accident is something that will stay with one for life. Facing criminal charges for such an incident only adds more stress and despair to an already difficult situation. A felony DUI is not something that is taken lightly in a South Carolina criminal court, and the accused could face a number of significant penalties — including imprisonment and hefty fines — if she is convicted. An experienced criminal defense attorney may be able to help this young woman resolve her legal situation in a manner that will best benefit her future and help her move forward from this tragic event.
