Family of man killed in motorcycle accident may seek damages

On Behalf of | Feb 9, 2016 | Wrongful Death

A tragic motorcycle accident in January resulted in the death of a South Carolina man. Until recently, the victim’s family had no idea who was responsible for the incident, as the driver is said to have fled the scene. Authorities have, however, recently arrested the individual they believe was involved in the wreck. With this arrest, the victim’s family may finally be able to seek damages in civil court for their losses.

In North Charleston, on Jan. 20, a 28-year-old male died in a hit-and-run accident. Witnesses to the incident claim that the driver of a van turned in front of the victim, hit his bike and kept driving. This incident is said to have occurred on U.S. Highway 78. It is believed that the victim died shortly after impact.

The person thought responsible for this crash is a 30-year-old male of Summerville. He has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. It is unknown if any court dates have been scheduled regarding this matter.

When a loved one is killed in an auto accident, the losses sustained can seem too much to handle. Surviving family members may be entitled to seek damages in court in an effort to seek financial relief and to hold the individual thought responsible accountable for his actions. This may be done by filing wrongful death and survival action claims. These sort of claims, if litigated successfully in a South Carolina civil court, may result in the victim’s family being granted compensation for any legally recoverable losses.
