South Carolina man charged for hit and run accident

On Behalf of | Mar 20, 2016 | Felonies

A South Carolina man was recently arrested for his alleged involvement in an auto-pedestrian accident in Georgetown. The victims and witnesses claim that this individual left the scene shortly after the crash occurred. A hit and run accident is considered a serious matter, and the accused would likely benefit from the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney as he fights his case in court.

This accident reportedly occurred on Feb. 20. A 31-year-old woman and her daughter were crossing the street when they say that a sedan made a U-turn and struck them. The victims were transported to a local hospital with what were believed to be minor injuries. According to police reports, the adult victim identified the driver as someone she knew, leading to the arrest warrant being issued for the accused.

The accused, a 40-year-old male of Myrtle Beach, is said to have turned himself in to police on March 12. He was immediately transferred to the Georgetown County Detention Center. Bond was set at just over $13,000, which was paid and the accused was released. This individual is due in court in April in order to address this matter.

A hit and run accident is not something that will be taken lightly in a South Carolina criminal court. Leaving the scene of an accident is a felony offense in this state. Thankfully, the accused does have the right to a criminal defense. With assistance, he may be able to fight the charges against him or pursue a plea agreement in hopes of receiving a reduction in charges and lighter sentencing.
