A South Carolina woman is facing criminal charges for her alleged involvement in a crash that killed a bicyclist. The incident reportedly occurred Saturday, April 16, in North Augusta. The driver is believed to have been impaired at the time of the collision. As such, she is facing a felony DUI charge.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating a crash between an automobile and a bicyclist. According to reports, the bicyclist was struck from behind while traveling on Edgefield Highway. The cyclist — a 60-year-old male — apparently died at the scene of the crash.

The individual believed responsible for this incident is a woman whose age has not been reported. She was charged with DUI the day after the collision occurred. It is unknown if she is currently being held by authorities or if she has been released. It has also not been reported if court dates have been scheduled regarding this matter.

When impairment is believed to have been a contributing factor in a fatal accident, the laws of South Carolina call for felony criminal charges. In this case, the accused is facing a felony DUI which can carry significant penalties — including hefty fines and a lengthy prison term. Fighting felony level charges is certainly not an easy task. With legal assistance, however, this individual can receive the help she needs to make informed decisions regarding her case, allowing her to pursue a course of action that will assist her in achieving the best outcome possible for her circumstances.
