A South Carolina man was recently arrested after police received reports of the accused walking into church services drunk. The accused is now facing drunk driving charges. He is said to be a repeat offender. As such, the consequences if convicted could be quite severe.
The accused — a 46-year-old male — reportedly attended church services at New Zion Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Other attendees say that this individual appeared to be intoxicated when he walked in the church, so police were called. The accused left the church after just a few minutes. Police soon located this individual and administered sobriety tests.
The accused was taken into custody and charged with DUI. He is considered a habitual offender and was reportedly driving on a suspended license. It is said that he has had a total of three license suspensions over the last 10 years. With this most recent charge, this individual could be looking at jail/prison time, fines and a complete loss of his driving privileges.
Drunk driving is a serious offense in South Carolina and elsewhere. This behavior puts so many people at risk of injury or death, so it is not an action that is taken lightly in court. With the accused’s criminal history, the consequences he is facing if convicted can have a significant impact on his future. As so much is on the line, he would likely benefit from the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney. With assistance, he can work to achieve an outcome that best serves his personal circumstances.
