A South Carolina man was taken into custody shortly after a multi-vehicle crash in Georgetown. According to reports, police claim that this individual was driving under the influence when he caused the collision. As per the laws of the state, this individual has the right to employ a criminal defense attorney to assist him as he fights his case in court.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday July 26, the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to an accident involving four vehicles on the Georgetown bridge. The driver of a sedan is said to have struck both a car and a truck in the northbound lanes of Highway 17. The force of impact sent the truck across the median where it overturned. The truck was then struck by an SUV traveling southbound. Thankfully, only minor injuries were reported.
The individual deemed responsible for this incident -- a 67-year-old male -- was arrested and has since been charged with DUI. Authorities have not stated what substance this person is said to have had in his system at the time of the wreck. It is unknown if he is still being held by authorities or if he has been released on bond. It has also not been reported if any court dates have been scheduled regarding this matter.
A DUI charge can carry stiff penalties in South Carolina. As such, this individual would most likely benefit from the services of a criminal defense attorney to assist him with his case. The accused, alongside counsel, will be able to question any evidence offered against him and fight the charges filed in an effort to seek the best possible outcome for his situation.
