Drunk driving charges filed following fatal pedestrian accident

On Behalf of | Sep 15, 2016 | Drunk Driving

A woman in South Carolina was recently arrested following a fatal pedestrian accident. According to reports, this individual was driving while impaired when she struck an older gentleman. She has since been charged with drunk driving. It is unknown if any other charges are pending in this case.

On Tuesday, Sept. 6, law enforcement officials in Florence arrested a 46-year-old woman for her alleged involvement in a fatal crash. A recent report claims that she was driving her vehicle on a local road when she hit a 65-year-old male who was walking in the street. No other details about the crash have been released.

The driver was arrested shortly after police arrive on-scene. She was booked into the Florence County Detention Center. As of the latest report, she has been charged with a first-offense DUI.

Even though the drunk driving charge in this case was filed as a first-offense, as an individual died in the wreck, the potential penalties the accused is facing are quite severe. These might include jail/imprisonment, loss of driving privileges, hefty fines and mandatory rehabilitation — among others. Any of these may have long-lasting consequences and could certainly impact this individual’s personal and professional life. Fighting DUI charges in South Carolina or elsewhere is never easy, as this is an issue that all states take very seriously. However, there may be a number of legal options available to the accused that would assist her in achieving a dismissal of charges or, at least, seek to minimize the consequences if she is convicted.
