A South Carolina man was recently killed when his moped collided with a semi-trailer. This incident reportedly occurred the morning of Sept. 7 in Horry County. If truck driver negligence is suspected in causing this crash, the victim’s surviving family members may be entitled to seek damages through legal means.

According to a recent report, the moped collided with the big rig at the intersection of the 544 and 31. The victim — a 49-year-old male — was apparently traveling westbound on the 544 when he collided with the semi, whose driver was attempting a left-hand turn onto the 31. Sadly, the moped operator died at approximately 6:40 a.m., due to mass blunt force trauma.

The intersection had to be closed for quite some time following the incident in order to allow investigators and clean up crews to work the scene. At this time, authorities have not released information about the official cause of this crash. The investigation appears to be ongoing. It is unknown if any charges are pending against the truck driver.

There is nothing easy about losing a loved one in such a tragic and unexpected way. This incident has, undoubtedly, created a number of emotional and financial burdens for the victim’s family. Thankfully, according to the laws of South Carolina, they may have legal recourse. A wrongful death claim may be filed against the truck driver and his or her employer in an effort to seek damages. If negligence is established successfully in a court of law, fair and full compensation for any and all recoverable losses may be awarded.
