A South Carolina man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a sex crimes case involving young children. Few details have been released regarding this matter, though it has been reported that he is facing charges of sexual assault. As the victims are minors, the potential consequences in this case -- if the accused is convicted -- can be quite severe.
According to a recent news report, the accused -- a 50-year-old male -- was arrested Sept. 16, for allegedly sexually assaulting three young children -- ages 4, 5 and 8. At this time, authorities have not shared the details of this case, as they believe they are too graphic. This case came to the attention of local law enforcement officers after a relative of the children reported the suspected abuse.
The accused and the mother of the children are said to have fled to a neighboring state after investigators were contacted. However, they were found shortly after and brought back to South Carolina. Reports claim that the accused admitted to the abuse. He was then arrested and is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
The charges against the accused include two counts of criminal sexual conduct involving a minor -- first degree, -- and criminal sexual conduct with a minor -- third degree. As South Carolina does not take sexual assault cases against children lightly, this individual may face a lengthy imprisonment, mandated inclusion on the Sex Offender registry and hefty fines -- among other penalties -- if prosecuting attorneys succeed if obtaining a conviction. With so much on the line, the accused could benefit from having an experienced criminal defense attorney on his side. With the right assistance, the accused can work to achieve the best outcome possible for what may seem to be an impossible situation.
