Family of teen killed in wreck may seek damages

On Behalf of | Oct 17, 2016 | Wrongful Death

The life of a South Carolina teenager was cut short thanks to a rollover crash in Horry County. This incident reportedly occurred the evening of Friday, October 14, in the Conway area. Police believe that only the one vehicle was involved in this wreck. As per the laws of the state, the victim’s surviving family members may be entitled to seek monetary damages for any losses sustained that are deemed recoverable.

A 17-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash shortly after emergency crews arrived. According to reports, this individual was a passenger in a pickup truck whose driver had lost control of the vehicle. It struck a mailbox and rolled in a ditch. The driver is said to have survived the incident, though his or her current condition is unknown.

At this time, authorities have not indicated what may have led up to this crash. This event is still under investigation. It is unknown if any criminal charges will be filed in this case.

When a loved one loses his or her life in a car crash, it is okay for surviving family members to have questions about liability. In this particular case, a young life was taken far too soon, and it is only natural to wonder if negligence played a role in her death. If negligence is suspected, the victim’s loved ones may pursue a wrongful death claim in a South Carolina civil court against the driver deemed responsible and/or the vehicle’s owner in an effort to seek damages. If litigation is successful, a monetary judgment may be awarded.
