South Carolina criminal defense: Ambulance service investigation

An ambulance service in South Carolina is currently being investigated by the state due to missing drugs. Medshore Ambulance is the official medical-transport company servicing Chesterfield County. Authorities have received reports that drugs are possibly being taken by employees. Charges have not yet been filed against anyone believed to be involved. However, if charges are filed, those accused could benefit from the services offered by an experienced criminal defense attorney.

According to a recent news report, the state opened the investigation against Medshore on Nov. 14. The company employs approximately 500 employees and is said to be cooperating with the Department of Health and Environmental Control's Bureau of Drug Control. On average, this department investigates 750 to 1,000 complaints regarding controlled substance misuse every year -- 25 percent of them involving health care workers.

The issue at the heart of the Medshore case is missing drugs, such as morphine. So far, one person has resigned as a result of the investigation. If any employees are found to have taken the drugs for personal use or distribution, they may face a number of criminal charges and could lose their professional licenses.

South Carolina residents who are facing any sort of drug-related charges may find their lives, both personally and professionally, forever changed if convictions are ultimately returned. Depending on the level of the charges filed, consequences for drug crimes include jail time, imprisonment, fines and court-ordered rehabilitation -- among numerous others. An experienced criminal defense attorney can help those accused of such crimes fight their cases and seek to have charges dismissed or penalties reduced.
