A South Carolina woman was arrested shortly after a car crash that left her passenger dead. This incident reportedly occurred the afternoon of Nov. 8, in Conway. The accused was taken to jail and is facing a felony DUI charge.

According to a local news outlet, a 49-year-old woman was driving her vehicle on Cultra Road when she lost control and crashed into a ditch. This individual was wearing a seat belt and only suffered minor injuries. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment. A passenger in her vehicle — a 51-year-old male — was not wearing his seat belt and suffered critical injuries. He was taken to a medical center for care, but he died a short time later.

After her release from the hospital, the driver was arrested and transported to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Bail was set in her case at $5,000. However, she is still in jail in lieu of bail.

In South Carolina, a felony DUI charge is not going to be taken lightly in court. The potential consequences if convicted can have drastic effects on one’s life. Penalties may include a lengthy imprisonment or jail time, hefty fines, loss of driving privileges and court ordered rehabilitation — among several others. For the accused in this case, fighting the charges filed is likely to prove difficult, but not impossible. With the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney, the best course of action for the client’s future can be pursued and the best outcome possible for the circumstances achieved.
