A South Carolina man was sleeping in his home when a car crashed through the building and struck him. Sadly, he died as a result of this incident. Per the laws of the state, the victim’s surviving family members may seek compensation for their losses by pursuing damages in civil court.

This incident reportedly occurred just after 11 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, in Anderson County. According to a local news outlet, a 19-year-old male is believed to have lost control of his SUV, causing it to jump a curb and crash into the home. The victim and one of his five children were asleep in the bedroom that was struck. It is unknown if the child suffered any injuries in the wreck.

The driver believed responsible is thought to have been impaired when the accident occurred. He was arrested following the crash and has been charged with a felony level DUI. No further information about this case has been released to the public.

This tragic accident could so easily have been prevented had the driver made better choices. Instead, a wife is left without her husband, and five children lost their dad. According to the state of South Carolina, those who have lost loved one’s due to the negligent actions of others may seek damages through legal means. In this particular case, a wrongful death claim may be filed against the driver and/or owner of the vehicle — if different. If negligence can be successfully established, fair and full compensation may be awarded.
