Man accused of threatening officer has right to criminal defense

A South Carolina man was arrested after an incident on Interstate 26 in late February. According to reports, he is facing DUI and drug charges, as well as charges for allegedly threatening a state trooper. As is the right of every individual who is accused of committing a crime, this man is fully entitled to a criminal defense.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, law enforcement authorities received a report of a motorist hitting construction barrels on I-26 in North Charleston. When troopers arrived on the scene, the driver allegedly fled on foot but was quickly apprehended. A trooper claims to have found marijuana while searching the accused and promptly arrested him. While putting the accused in the backseat of a patrol car, authorities claim that the accused kicked one of the officers and made threatening remarks.

Due to these alleged events, the accused has been charged with simple possession, DUI and threatening a public official. Bond was set at just over $11,000. It is unknown if the accused was able make payment and secure release or if he is still in police custody. It has also not been reported if court dates have been set regarding this matter.

The charges filed in this case can carry some stiff penalties if a conviction in a South Carolina criminal court is achieved by prosecuting attorneys. Thankfully, the accused has the right to retain an experienced criminal defense attorney to assist him with his case. With counsel by his side, the accused will be able to the actions necessary to fight for a case dismissal or to seek a reduction in charges and penalties.
