South Carolina woman killed in crash, family may pursue damages

A South Carolina woman who defied the odds and beat cancer not just once but twice, was killed in an auto accident recently while on her way to her final treatment session. The other driver involved is believed to be responsible for the wreck. As such, the victim’s surviving family members may seek damages in civil court.

According to a recent news article, the victim was traveling on S.C. 24 in Anderson County when the driver of a garbage truck ran a stop sign at Whitehall Road and struck her car. She was transported to the hospital for treatment while her family was notified. Sadly, she died shortly after they arrived to meet her at the medical facility.

Few details have been released about the garbage truck driver. He did reportedly remain on the scene and is cooperating with police. Authorities have not indicated if any criminal charges are pending against this individual.

This woman was a mother of five grown children, and a big supporter of her community and various charities. This loss of life will be felt by many for years to come. Unfortunately, it is the victim’s children who will be the ones to bear the greatest emotional and financial burdens as a result of this incident. According to the laws of South Carolina, they may be entitled to seek damages through legal means. By filing and successfully litigating a wrongful death claim in civil court, and any other claims that may be applicable to this case, the victim’s loved ones may achieve compensation for their economic and non-economic losses.
