After a fatal crash on I-26 near the end of March, police arrested the individual believed responsible. The South Carolina man has been charged with reckless homicide and felony DUI. These are serious offenses, both of which could have a life-changing consequences for the accused.
According to reports, in the early morning hours of March 26, a 46-year-old male was driving his vehicle eastbound on Interstate 26 when he allegedly struck an SUV in an adjacent lane of traffic. The force of impact sent the SUV off the highway and over the guardrail. A 9-year-old child was ejected from the vehicle. Sadly, she died at an area hospital just over an hour after the incident occurred.
The accused was promptly taken into police custody. It is unclear if he is still being detained by authorities or if he has been released on bond. Court dates regarding this case have not been reported.
If convicted on the felony DUI and other charges filed in this case, the accused could spend a good amount of his life behind bars in a South Carolina prison. He may also be responsible for paying significant fines and restitution that could be economically devastating.
