South Carolina police were recently called to a restaurant after a truck was hit by another vehicle while in the parking lot. The individual thought responsible was arrested and charged with drunk driving and other offenses. The accused is reportedly underage, so the penalties that would accompany a conviction could be quite severe.
Authorities responded to a call at The Coop restaurant in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 5. When police arrived, employees from the establishment were chasing a man who they claim is responsible for hitting a truck in the parking lot with his vehicle. Before authorities could do anything, the accused got in his SUV and fled the scene. He did not make it far, however, before crashing in a ditch.
When police apprehended the 20-year-old gentleman, field sobriety tests were conducted, which he allegedly failed. He was taken into custody and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Charges against him, including underage DUI and cocaine possession. This individual was released from the detention center later that same day. Court dates regarding this matter have not been reported.
The consequences for the drunk driving and the other charges filed in this case may be quite severe if this man is ultimately convicted. In South Carolina, potential penalties include license suspension, lengthy jail term, hefty fines and court ordered rehabilitation — among numerous others. All of this, or course, could have a significant impact on both his personal and professional life. A skilled criminal defense attorney may be able to help this individual fight the charges filed against him or by seeking to minimize the consequences of a conviction.
