Police in South Carolina recently arrested a Myrtle Beach man. According to the Attorney General’s office, he was accused of possessing child pornography. This is considered a felony level offense which can carry life-changing consequences if this individual is ultimately convicted.

According to a local news report, police made this arrest Thursday, May 4. The accused is said to be a 47-year-old male. He has been charged with third degree sexual exploitation of a minor — two counts. Upon his arrest, he was transported to a local detention center. He has since posted bond which was set at $10,000.

Few details about this case have been released to the public. Investigators say that this individual possessed pornographic images of children, but it is unclear how they came to this finding. The South Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force did reportedly assist in making this arrest.

Child pornography is a serious offense in South Carolina and elsewhere, but there are a lot of issues that arise in these cases that can result in a person being falsely accused. For example, if more than one person has access to the computer on which the images were found, either in person or through peer-to-peer networking, how can investigators be sure to whom the images belong? An experienced criminal defense attorney may be able to help the accused in this case by fully investigating the matter, including having a forensic evaluation completed on the computer or electronic device on which the images were allegedly found. By taking the time to question every bit of evidence offered and reviewing investigator reports, information may come to light which could help the accused in court.
