In the early morning hours of May 27, a man driving a moped was struck by another vehicle in South Carolina. The driver believed responsible for crash reportedly fled the scene. However, police recently made an arrest in this case. The accused is now facing a hit-and-run charge.
According to a local news report, a 47-year-old male was operating his moped on the U.S. 701 South when at approximately 4:20 a.m. he was hit by a car in the area of New Road. The driver of the car failed to remain at the scene and did not call for help. Sadly, as a result, the victim died of his injuries at the scene of the collision.
Tips from members of the community led police to a 37-year-old man of Conway. He was arrested and booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center. Bond has been set in his case at $35,000. The investigation into this matter is still ongoing. It is unclear if any court dates have been scheduled in this case.
At this point, it is unknown what tips led to this man’s arrest. Police have also declined to comment on what evidence they have that connects this individual to the crime. As the felony hit-and-run charge in this case can carry stiff penalties if the accused is convicted, questioning the evidence is going to be key in fighting his case. An experienced criminal defense attorney will be able to assist the accused in doing all that is necessary to fight his case in a South Carolina criminal court so that he can achieve the best outcome possible.
